Blackwoods Press was founded in 2007 by long-distance backpacker and cartographer Erik Asorson, aka “Erik the Black.” We publish maps and guidebooks designed to give you the essential trail data you need to plan your backpacking adventures, in a lightweight, hiker-friendly format.
My Maps and Pocket Atlases for the Pacific Crest Trail, John Muir Trail and Tahoe Rim Trail have been used by thousands of hikers over the last 15+ years. If you like to know where you’re going, but don’t like packing big heavy guidebooks, then my minimalist trail guides are for you!
