About Blackwoods Press

Blackwoods Press was founded in 2007 by long-distance backpacker and cartographer Erik Asorson, aka “Erik the Black.” We publish maps and guidebooks designed to give you the essential trail data you need to plan your backpacking adventures, in a lightweight hiker-friendly format.

My Maps and Pocket Atlases for the Pacific Crest Trail, John Muir Trail, Tahoe Rim Trail, Colorado Trail and Arizona Trail have been used by thousands of hikers to plan their adventures. If you like to know where you’re going, but don’t like heavy guidebooks, then my minimalist trail guides are for you!
