About Blackwoods Press

Erik the Black

Blackwoods Press was founded in 2007 by long-distance backpacker and cartographer Erik Asorson, aka “Erik the Black,” after completing a thru-hike on the Pacific Crest Trail. Our mission is to produce maps and trail guides that include only the essential information backpackers use on a daily basis, without the “fluff and filler” found in most guidebooks, and make them convenient to pack, easy to use and ultra lightweight.

My Pocket Atlases for the Pacific Crest Trail, John Muir Trail, Tahoe Rim Trail and Colorado Trail have been used by thousands of hikers to successfully navigate some of America’s best long-distance hiking trails. If you like to know where you’re going, but don’t want to read hundreds of pages of commentary, these books and maps are for you.

Happy trails,

Author, Cartographer, Thru-Hiker
